the sTiGmA, pt. 3
We're gonna talk about Christians + cannabis, but first we have to cover why Christians are so judgmental about everything.
Isn’t it kind of sad that the thing I was most nervous about when starting a cannabis regimen to manage my mental illness was what Christians would think and how they would respond? Doesn’t that kind of just sum up the status of the Westernized Church in 2022? We’re so quick to judge, so fast to point a finger and say what someone else is doing is wrong, so obsessed with what our brothers and sister can or cannot do according to Scripture. We’ve got a major log vs. speck situation going on.
And that was never more clear than when I soft launched my cannabis use on Instagram. In the two hours the post was up before it was taken down for violating Instagram’s community guidelines, I lost upwards of 300 followers and saw a massive influx of DMs and comments chiding me for my irresponsible use of my platform. Mind you, you can go back to the original post in this Substack and read the exact post I put up. Like most things I write, it was cut and dry, full of factual information, and laced with personal experience. The backlash was immediate.
